The site is 8 acres and owned by The Woodland Trust but managed on a long lease by the Church Wood Conservation Group.
We maintain the site in accordance with a management plan, this involves maintaining paths and boundary fencing and replanting areas when appropriate with diverse native trees, mostly hardwoods like beech and oak.
We encourage native flowers such as snow drops and bluebells and the wood attract a wide variety of wildlife. We are a small charity and receive some funding support from the Parish Council and welcome donations from the public to help us achieve our aims.
The wood is open to the public and is very popular with walkers, we also have a meeting area for the Whitegate forest school to bring classes each week during term time.
We hold working parties on the second Saturday monthly starting at 9.30 until approximately midday should anyone wish to join in. They would need suitable footwear and gloves. Working parties are subject to manage with lockdown restrictions. Further details, including contacts, are on the notice board at the entrance of the wood.

Work party days and times: Second Saturday of the month, 9.30am to 12.30pm
